The Haenyeo are the traditional divers of Jeju, South Korea, who dive into the depths of the sea without any tools to collect precious seafood with their own hands - a craft that has been passed down through generations. Jeju is known for three things: Wind, stone and women, with the haenyeo being at the heart of this culture and living symbols of strength and independence. They have been working independently for many years, supporting themselves and their families through their craft. This exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in a new culture, a new country and a unique craft. By combining my own craft with the world of the Haenyeo, I want to make their tradition known beyond its origins and show how their values and practices also find meaning in our society today. The Haenyeo are not only part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage, but also a source of inspiration for women and for all those who live independence and self-reliance.
